Must Verk!

July 21, 2008 / by maggiemae

I baked a birthday cake for my second son yesterday.  I can't believe he turned 23!  But before I could get started, I had to do some catch-up cleaning in the kitchen.  It's been a dumping ground for all the stuff that is hard to put away.  I assumed it would take longer than it did.  As it turned out, I got it done in about an hour or so.  I don't know why I waited so long.

I'm so glad that it's done!  It was so nice to wake up to a clean kitchen this morning.  I even had fresh roses on the table that I had bought as an 'incentive' a few days ago.  I like to have little rewards like that.  Anyway, this whole week will be devoted to getting ready for company...with some church work interspersed.  Times like these, I'm grateful for any help I can get.  And I do have help this time!

I've recently lent money to both my neighbor and my son.  Both have been repaying it by helping me, and it's been so great!  My son is replacing rotten siding, and my neighbor has been helping me weed and clean.  I think our house will be cleaner than it's ever been!  The yard already looks better than it's looked in a long time.

The last several years have been so hard, I just couldn't get myself motivated to have the kind of 'house pride' that I used to have.  Still, there are little projects that have gotten done, and each project moves me that much closer to where I hope to be eventually.

It's little things like going to clean out a closet so that our guests will have a place to hang stuff, and remembering that I already painted and built infrastructure there...so all I have to do is clean.  I don't have to feel like I have to re-build!  People who have modern, newish houses will probably not know what I'm talking about here...but people with funky old fixer-upper houses...I know you know what I mean!

Anyway...I'd better get off this computer and get back to work!   Have a GREAT DAY!

The roses sound lovely. I think I'll wait for the cooler weather and buy some for myself too.

I know you love flowers...after working around them yourself!  They really add something to a home...but it doesn't have quite the desired effect if the house is messy.
