Update on 17yo

July 5, 2008 / by maggiemae

I drove to find 17yo yesterday and ended up talking with 'other mother's' husband.  He doesn't want to move into the house that OM and my daughter are renting.  He doesn't particularly like having people live with them.  As far as I could tell, the marriage isn't over, they are just going to have separate spaces.

Also, OM needed to find a house so that she could continue to be on housing assistance.  They have been living in a trailer for the last 6 months or so, and I guess that if you don't use your housing assistance, you lose it.  That makes sense to me...and makes me less suspicious of her using my daughter to get benefits.

Then I went over to where my daughter was working.  She took a break so we could talk.  She is very depressed!  I got the impression that she was barely hanging on.  She doesn't want to be alone...but she says she feels so out of place at our home.  She also wants to be away from the temptations of all the drugs around here.

She's not quite finished with the fiance, although he's not made any effort to be with her as far as I can tell.  Everybody who loves her wants her to break up...or just let it fizzle.  But she is very emotionally vested.  It's bound to be hard on her.  I remember what it was like...to be in love with someone who supposedly loves you back, but neglects the heck out of you.  It's very painful!  She says she feels "ruined".

I told her YOU ARE NOT RUINED!  This is the place where compassion is born, where wisdom is born, where endurance is born.  I don't think that was very comforting to her right now...but I hope it gives her hope that this will all turn to good at some point.

Anyway, if she and OM want to move in together, I feel it is best for me to give her my blessing...and to be available...and to keep her continually in my prayers, as always.
